Our Practice
A Practice Built on Patience and Careful Attention
Sombat Counsel was founded on the belief that legal guidance should feel supportive, not daunting — especially in matters that touch a family's future.

How Sombat Counsel Came to Be
Sombat Counsel was established in Bangkok by a small group of legal practitioners who had spent years in broader civil practice, and who noticed a consistent gap: families navigating inheritance and estate matters rarely received the patient, plain-language guidance they needed. The process was often opaque, correspondence heavy, and emotionally costly.
The practice was set up deliberately as a focused one. Rather than covering every area of law, we chose to concentrate on wills, estate settlement, and inheritance representation — and to do those things well, attentively, and with appropriate care for the human circumstances behind every case.
Today Sombat Counsel operates from Bang Phlat in Bangkok, serving clients from across Thailand and from abroad who have a Thai estate matter to address.
Our Mission
What Guides Everything We Do
We believe legal processes should be as clear to the people they affect as they are to those managing them. That shapes how we communicate, how we structure our work, and how we set our fees — transparently, without surprises.
Each matter is handled by qualified practitioners who give it proper time and attention. We do not rush clients, and we do not assume that a solution that worked in one case will fit another.
Steady, considered work — no rushed conclusions, no corners cut.
Honest communication — plain language about process, cost, and realistic expectations.
Respect for context — estate matters often arise at difficult times; we never lose sight of that.

Standards
How We Approach Every Matter
Registered Thai Legal Practice
All practitioners are registered with the Lawyers Council of Thailand and hold current practising certificates. Work is carried out in accordance with Thai civil and commercial law.
Confidentiality and Discretion
Client information is held under strict professional confidentiality obligations. Family matters and estate details are never discussed with third parties without written consent.
Clear Engagement Terms
Every matter begins with a written summary of scope, fees, and process. No work beyond what was agreed is undertaken without prior discussion and written confirmation.
Thorough Document Review
Wills, title documents, and estate filings undergo careful review before submission. We aim to anticipate difficulties rather than resolve them after they arise.
Regular Client Updates
Clients receive updates at each meaningful stage of their matter — not only when something has gone wrong, but as a matter of routine communication.
International Client Capability
We are experienced in handling Thai estate matters for clients based outside Thailand, including coordinating apostilles, translations, and overseas document execution.
Our Expertise
Legal Counsel for Inheritance Matters in Bangkok
Thai inheritance law is shaped by the Civil and Commercial Code, which sets out a clear statutory framework for how an estate passes when someone dies — whether with a will or without one. Navigating that framework well requires familiarity with the documentation standards Thai courts and land offices expect, and with the timelines that govern different stages of settlement.
Sombat Counsel works within that framework every day. Our focus on inheritance and estate matters means that the processes involved — from preparing a will to completing the transfer of titled land or managing the settlement of a contested estate — are well-known to us. We bring that working knowledge to each client's situation, applying it carefully rather than by routine.
For clients planning ahead, a well-drafted will is among the most straightforward steps a person can take. For families dealing with a loss, our settlement support is designed to lift much of the administrative burden and guide relatives through the legal steps clearly. Where a dispute has arisen or representation is needed, we approach that work with the same steadiness — focused on a sound resolution rather than prolonged process.
Bangkok's role as a hub for both Thai nationals and long-term foreign residents means that cross-border estate questions arise frequently — situations where Thai property forms part of a larger estate, or where beneficiaries live abroad. This is an area we understand well and handle with the same care we bring to purely domestic matters.
